I Got A Valentine!
“Well, so what?” you might be thinking. Valentine’s Day was almost a month ago! Ah, but this particular valentine had a fair distance to travel. You see, the charming young men in my AP class (masterminded by Stephen, who is forgiven for cheating so shamelessly on my blog quiz) sent a valentine’s card around, and each of them signed it with a nice message for me. Now, lest you think, “So? Some kids passed a card around class,” think again! You see, my class is totally online, so this particular card, after bouncing around to several different cities in PA also made its way to New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and Arizona before it came to rest in my mailbox. Is it any wonder I love teaching so?
The Good Doctor and the boys made it safely to IN. They are having an absolutely marvelous time. It seems that the only Penn State fans who drove to IN are the families of the wrestlers and coaches, so my family is having a ball hanging out with the Yonushonis and Davis families and others. It’s like spending seven hours sitting with the parents of (insert your favorite sports’ star here).
The girls and I had a good day as well, although I got a bit tired of shopping by the end of it. I did manage to end a two-year quest and find a new spring coat. My needs weren’t terribly complex. I just couldn’t find a non-plasticky (not really a word) zip-up jacket with a hood! But, tonight I did, and I was a happy pup.
After shopping, we came home and watched Pride and Prejudice (2003), which is an excellent movie–totally clean and funny! It’s Pride and Prejudice set in 2003 with some modernizing plot changes.
I have to go finish my Bible study for tomorrow’s Sunday school class. I don’t think anyone from class reads my blog, so I’m safe in confessing I’ve not even started the part I was to study for tomorrow! But, before I leave, thanks to Anna for the cool blue border thing which I pilfered from her website, which is by far the best Lord of the Rings website ever made.

Wow- what a memorable Valentine!
Aw, that was nice! It’s fun to teach when you’re appreciated.
Should we alum add our message of gratefulness and thanks to the best AP Lang teacher ever? Never mind, it’s not an option. You’re the best, and I doubt any alum would argue with me.
And, btw, say hello to Mr. Jackson for me next time you chat with him . . . his little experiments with Ella Minnow Pea are quite amusing. I’ll never forget the time I lost some of my MYOMC and he told me the only way to retrieve it was illegal. Good heavens . . . I vowed never to mess with him.
A Valentine is never to be shrugged at, no matter what time of year! You Austen fan–where is your sense of romance!? Although I know this was not the romantic type of Valentine:)–what an incredible blessing to have all your students show their affection for their teacher! It blesses me, too, to hear of it.
Just watched the new Pride and Prejudice–thought the filming was great and loved it. I have to say that I enjoy the Lawrence Oliviet version best (1941?) of all the versions I have seen (2:)). I love Sense and Sensibility (with Hugh Grant) also. I have just purchased the “complete works of Jane Austen”. I figure I check them out at the library often enough to buy the crazy thing. And it’s hard cover–figured I’d wear out the cover of a soft book! Am I pathetic, or is it ok to be enamored by these novels of Jane Austen? Is it something that I should or should not have in my Christian life–this is a question I ask myself. I love the romance–I love the excellent character of the heroines–I love how they are not perfect–I love how the times are depicted so accurately–I love how LOVE WINS over all adversity! What can I say? I feel inspired by the heroines (and some others) to live in a modest and gracious manner. So I can’t fault that. BUT I can fault how I am kind of consumed by the novels while reading them–my brain just isn’t where it should be when I have a Jane Austen novel in the works! I keep reliving my favorite paragraphs and I confess (gasp) rereading my favorite passages over and over!
Well, enough confessions from me for now:).
love–Corrine
A-ha! Caught you…although maybe I’m not technically in your Sunday School class anymore. I guess that is lucky for you, since otherwise I’d rat you out to the rest of the class.
What a sweet idea of your students! I need to see the “newer” P&P, I’m glad your having a good day with your girls!
I sent the card from New Jersey, so it went to AZ then lord-only-knows-where-else.
You seem to be able to dig up more versions of P&P than I thought could possibly exist!
I’m still in shock over the amount of candy TGDJ bought for the trip. They must’ve all been flying high. That’s very cool that they got to hang out with the wrestlers families. The boys were probably loving it. I would’ve been (IF I were a huge PSU wrestling fan).
How creative those students were (are). Yesterday I looked at some old pictures from Cedarville days and so many fond memories of knowing your family came flooding back–like us ballooning/forking your yard, babysitting the boys, jr high youth group….. Hope you have a great week. Thile
Two things I hate shopping for and never can find – shoes and coats. I’m glad you found that elusive spring coat you’ve been looking for.
I would consider it a priviledge (whoops, my mind can’t come up with the spelling on that one at the moment for some reason) to have your advice on my new story, especially because you’re an English teacher. I’m willing and open for you to tell me the truth about it and tell me what I could work on.
I’d love to have your comments on my work!
Aww, that valentine sounds so sweet! Who is your student in Arizona, I wonder? I live in AZ, so I’m curious.
