  • Join Me in a Whuppity Scoorie Celebration?

If you are so inclined, we can celebrate this fine tradition of Lanark, Scotland, held every March 1, by doing the following:  first, we gather before 6:00 pm at Saint Nicholas church. Then as the “wee bell” rings the hour, we run
round the church three times counter-clockwise while swinging balls made of paper and tied with a piece of
    string around our heads.

Sound like fun?  Okay. Fine. Be that way.

In other news of March 1st, I suppose there isn’t much.

I’m really looking forward to spring break next week, even though we aren’t doing anything in particular.  It seems that the rest of our acquaintances are headed to Florida. To be honest, the thought of packing up for a trip and traveling sounds daunting. I’m looking forward to nothingness.

Well, actually, that’s not really true. I’ve got my list o’things to do for spring break.

    1.  Finish all AP grading!
    2. Work on my quilt which has been untouched for about a year.
    3. Sew a fancy American Girl doll dress with Libby.
    4. Go bowling with Wilsons.
    5. Spend a day sitting in a chair just reading.

Actually, maybe I’ll flop myself on the couch. We have an incredibly comfortable couch, but I rarely sit or lie on it.  It would be nice to be a sluggo–maybe watch craft and home makeover shows–all day!

What would you do for your week of spring break if you didn’t take a trip anywhere?

  • I can attest to the comfiness of your couches, and on spring break we always did nothing and it’s SOOOOOO great!

  • i would totally run counter-clockwise around a church with you waving a ball around my head. = )

  • Let’s see.  A week of spring break would consist of spending one day in Washington, DC taking in the cherry blossoms (do day trips constitute as a vacation?), washing all the windows, touch up painting, plant out some pansies, cleaning out the garage, and finally I’d start planning what I am going to plant in my flower beds.  Have I told you that our flower gardens are going to be part of the community garden show tour this June?  Speaking of the first day of the month—have you ever heard of going to bed and saying “Hare, Hare” the night of the last day of the month and waking the next morning the first of the month and saying “Rabbits, Rabbits”?  I think it was suppose to bring you good luck.  Ta, Ta, Thile

  • Hi–I would probably try to read a book or 3 that I had wanted to for a long time.  And I would plan “special times” with each of the children (1/2-1 hour long times alone with an individual child).  And I would exercise and go for walks.  And I would bake and have people over for dinner and visit people and maybe go on a “color tour” (driving off on a scenic route–originally to see the Fall leaves in  northern Michigan up to Copper Harbor.  But now it just means driving off to see something scenic.  Christopher and I used to strap the children into their car seats and just drive off into Massachusetts, not looking at a map, but just taking any interesting road we found.  Then when we wanted to go home, we would pull out the GREAT street map and home was usually only 15-20 minutes away.)  I would also try to find time to pray and be with the Lord more–more Bible study–more sermon listening–more prayer.

I really can’t imagine a week like you have suggested–there is too much to do!  ;)   Well, I might be tempted to paint the house (inside).  That’s been very tempting lately.  I mean, 13 years of white walls have taken their toll on me!  I’m ready to go crazy!

  • Probably what you’re going to do….

  • Sigh. I am not taking a spring break. We really cannot afford to take that time off.

  • Mrs. Sellers– you’ve abondoned Pink Floyd? For shame! How could you refuse to introduce your children to such musical melodies?

And as for the comments, I was put to it. It was all a pretense kept for the good of the Council! All that grieves me is that I was only able to do one paltry duty before the Council was toppled.

  • I’d like to leave the girls home with dad and hit the outlets – or a spa, Mmmmm.

This year Scott is spending spring break working on a major writing project and watching the girls while I go to the dentist for a filling.  Wee!  Maybe we’ll work a few laps around church in.

  • I posted my first chapter last night, and I’m going to add you to the list right now. I welcome helpful suggestions and constructive criticisms.

  • Aw, it was fine, really. I’m just sorry I couldn’t stay for the whole thing. Hope I didn’t make things any harder by leaving!

  • Tahiti! Kaui! or more reasonably, Walla Walla Washington. I’ve been reading the Ph Miracle Diet and they have a retreat center in California.  I think I’d like to go there and listen to the fountains, rake the zen garden,  and take meditative walks over the grounds wondering what new way they will prepare tofu, coconut, greens and avacados for lunch… I could come back slimmer and healhier with the worst of the dietary detox done!  RYC: yes, I think you would be just like those qualities I listed!
