  • Thanks!

First of all, thank you for the wonderful suggestions on getting to sleep. I take a calcium and magnesium supplement every evening, but I’ll have to check to see what the levels are.  I think maybe I just have more on my mind than I’d like to admit.  We’ll just have to see how well I sleep once the extra parts to the play are written. I’m almost done, but there will be revisions and additions, I’m sure.

Mamaglop has kindly inquired about The Good Doctor J, so I will elucidate. James, also known as my dear husband, has a PhD in math.  He recently got a Xanga account so that my entries could be emailed to him instead of his having to check the website. When we went to set up the account, lo and behold, “The Good Doctor” was already taken!  Since his secretaries call him “Dr. J,” TheGoodDoctorJ became his new Xanga identity.  It’s a mite long, so if I refer to him as TGDJ, you’ll have to forgive me.

Having the Loeschers here for a visit has been wonderful. This afternoon, they, Jen H., KID and The Godfather, and the respective children were here all afternoon. What did we do besides eat, watch NASCAR, play games, and listen to PSU wrestling? We sat around and talked about Jess  and El_Mano.  You two are missed.

I’ve been thinking about what I should do next year with all my free time since I won’t be teaching the AP class. Any suggestions?

  • AHHH, how sweet we are soooo jealous we’re not there.  Wait before I say oh sweet, I hope they were good things you said about us!  As for your free time, I think you should write a book.  Come on, you know you want to do it and you’ld be so good at it.

  • I find it’s helpful to keep a list of the things you want to do when you get free time…  then even if you never consult your list when the free time comes (for example, if you’re just feeling lazy over a Christmas break or Spring break),  you can still feel like there are things you could be doing if you wanted.  :)

  • Sigh, PA Homeschoolers is losing its best teacher.

Yesterday afternoon, Kelsey and I met good old Matt Capone (remember him?) for dinner in Davidson. He was visiting Davidson College (which is conveniently the town we are moving to this weekend). It was very cool to meet up with him again: he’s still cynically witty and brilliant. For most of the evening, we sat around and reminisced about your class and how great you were.

Matt and I concurred on two things: 1.) you spoiled us – we expected all the rest of our teachers from then on to be as great as you were; and 2.) your class got us through high school. No doubt about it. The skills we learned from your class – even those barbaric timed essays – have benefited us in every area.

So, we love you Mrs. Sellers. And the AP/homeschool world is losing one of its best.

  • No more AP English?? Mary, I have 3 more kids I was planning to send to you! Maybe in a few years you’ll reconsider?

I know…just organize a homeschool teacher training session up there, and we can all pick your brain while you tell us how you do it all. Please include sessions on :
    A. Red vs. Purple: Does pen color really affect student self esteem?
    B. The Intricacies of Grading: How much to deduct per spelling error.
    C. Handwriting Analysis for Teachers (Never be Stymied by Nameless Papers Again!)

Yes, the end of an era. Somehow I don’t think you’ll be bored!

  • Mary,  Free time, eh?  Well you could bring the kids here and I could take you all on a tour of Amish Country.  Ever do that? That would take care of 1 day!  Or (for a longer project) I could suggest that you  write a book/novel.  You do such a great job putting thoughts down on paper and they are very entertaining to read.  I could see you writing a book based (compiled) on your every day life experiences.  Are you into watching the Olympics?  We are watching just about every televised event, especially hockey & skating.  Have a great day and hope you get a good night’s sleep.  Thile
